One-Page Canvas Module
As part of my first year Innovation Fellowship, a small group was tasked with creating a micro-project. At the suggestion of Digital Communication professor Jamal Alexander, we developed a template for a one-page Canvas module.
Traditional Canvas modules are several separate pages/links that necessitate clicking from page to page to access information. The one-pager, however, looks more like a website and contains all the necessary information and links on a single platform, like this:
I’ve taken this on for my own courses and I really like how clean and organized it is. Here are the steps I follow:
Create a module group entitled “Weekly Modules”.
Add a new Page to the module group entitled “Week 1.” (Or Unit 1, or whatever)
In edit mode, use the rich text editor to add a table.
Put a heading or graphic at the top. I use Canva.com to create an image (the Facebook cover photo template works well for this).
Go to the Syllabus tab on the left, copy the items due that week/time, then paste them into the table.
After you save and publish, click the three dots next to the page, and select “use as front page.” I change the front page every Saturday morning.
